Chihuahua    Age: Adult

Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Pedro's Story... Meet the adorable Pedro! Sadly, sweet Pedro was rescued from a puppy mill. He lived in a cage for so long that even walking on grass can be scary for him, and he hates the cold. Pedro is still working on housetraining and shows us everyday how intelligent he is and how quickly he learns. We are looking for an special home that will 'just say no' to supporting puppy mills and pet stores- and choose rescue instead. A $175 adoption fee helps us take care of all the dogs we rescue. Bluetick Coonhound    Age: Adult

Health: Neutered

Jake's Story... Can you believe how healthy Jake now looks?! Can you share to help him find a loving home? When his foster mom sent in these photos, I hardly recognized him! Jake, a former bear hound, came to us with a nasty 'on the job' injury. We litterally had to have his abdomen stiched back together...multiple times. We also gave him full dental care ontop of our routine vetting. Sadly, Jake has had a condition for many years in which he 'drips pee.' Jake will have this for the rest of his life. Jake lived outside his entire life (9 years) before entering our foster program. He bonded with both of his foster moms VERY fast! He is so ...     Georgia's Story... Meet Georgia, a young German Shepherd mix! When we rescued Georgia, she was living on a chain in rural in VA, and VERY pregnant. Luckily, we got her into a loving foster home where she delivered her puppies only days later. All of her babies have been adopted, and now it's Georgia's turn! Georgia has several text book shepherd characteristics. She likes to be very close to her 'people', is intelligent and loyal. She gets very attached and doesn't like to be left alone for long periods. While we don't often require a fenced yard, Georgia has gone into flight mode before and can be difficult to catch. Rescue Me ID: 16-11-23-00351Tony (male)

Jack Russell    Age: Adult

Tony is about 5-6 years old. He is believed to be a jack russell terrier mix. He is a little overweight and currently working on loosing some excess pounds! As you can see Tony is missing all his black hair. When he arrived in our program he was seen by the vet who believes that Tony has Canine Black Hair Follicular Dysplasia. This is a genetic disorder that causes him to loose only his black hair. Most likely it will never grow back but doesn't affect him at all! He likes to wear a sweater to keep warm and he may need some sunscreen put on in the summer to help protect his skin. When visiting the vet a complete blood panel was run and all ... (Read More)his bloodwork looked great! He had two nasty teeth removed as well. Tony is a sweet boy, loves to ride in the car and hang out with his people. He is crate trained and doing really well on house training! (most days he doesn't have accidents) He does well with all the other dogs in his foster home and likes the kids too! Rescue Me ID: 16-11-14-00471Sophie (female)

German Shepherd Mix    Age: Young Adult

Health: Spayed

A very loyal companion and sweet friend! Our best guess is Sophie is a German Shepherd and Vizsla mix (based on what other dog owners have told us). She would make a really great companion for someone who enjoys the outdoors, hiking, running, just being out! She requires everyday exercise if possible to get out her high-energy nature except if it's raining then she doesn't care much about going out, she's quite the snuggle bunny. Thankfully her most favorite thing in the world to do is fetch! She will do that until she is so tired she flops down to bask in the delight of a good run! The way we best achieve this is by a favorite game using ... (Read More)the 'chuck it' a handy tool 'ball thrower', finding a open field and you're SET. She will love you forever and do that any day of the week. She is incredibly agile and fast, a very precise dog (think Olympic athlete). She blows my mind every time she catches a ball in midair, sometimes even before it ever hit the ground! Would make a great running companion if that's your thing and in general LOVES being outdoors with you. The following are only the tip of the iceberg when it comes to what she has to offer: Crate Trained. She is crate trained and loves her 'den'. That's her sacred space and she finds refuge there many times throughout her day. It's where she sleeps most of the time and will go to if a thunderstorm is happening or just anytime she wants to of if you need her to she is happy to so. Knows the following commands: Sit, Stay, Lay down, Spin, Leave it, Come, Out, and many other human words. You can basically talk to her and she mostly understands what you're saying. Active: As stated above she loves to be moving and playing. Affectionate: She wants to be where ever you go/are which makes her a wonderful dog to take with you on trips, she's the perfect pal. Dislikes being left at home and if we are going to work when we can't bring her we leave her with a peanut butter stuffed kong to keep her mind and taste buds busy and she usually does very well. Loves the water, In the summer it's simply amazing to take her out to a river or stream and just have a ball! She will fetch sticks and swim them back to you. Great for someone who enjoys being at water, rivers and hikes. Sophie is Very loyal and while can become protective. This is something to be aware of as people come into your (her family's) space. She has the tendency to bark at first and doesn't always do the best with strangers (typically large unknown males), sudden movements or folks coming into her space. It depends on the person and how they sniff out. We've found that greeting new people outside first is always best, and taking it slow. This is a typical dog trait to a degree and I'm certain that Sophie simply didn't get enough people exposure during the critical age and most likely received the negative aspects from certain people in her past. With patience and continued consistent training I'm sure Sophie would improve greatly. We've seen much progress on this front since we've been working with her. This would be a great area of work to continue in order to round out the rough edges and social awkwardness she has with new people. I mention this as I feel it's important to know for hers and everyone's safety. She requires an alert individual. She is a complex animal with many layers to learn as I continually have. She will teach you more about yourself than you may have wanted to know! She gives back in many more subtle ways through your own learning experience of working with an animal who can use a little help/patience and love. As mentioned above she obviously has had some mistreatment in her past, therefore she is a bit fearful of new people and also does not do well with children (my guess is kids in her previous house were really hard on her). We have never had any serious issues with these things, but it's important to be aware of at all times and to not take chances. Shes good with other dogs most times, but will not be good with cats or any other small-size furry animals in your house. We've learned this the hard way through personal experience. She has a naturally high prey drive that would be better suited not having those temptations for her until proper training has been accomplished. Sophie is free to the Right home and comes with Many toys and accessories (Create, car seat cover, many toys and treats, balls, ball throwers, bed, etc. Only serious heartfelt conscious individuals will be considered as I'm not in any way willing to let her go to a home where someone will not properly care for her. Please contact me to talk about more details and setup a meeting to see if Sophie is right for you! Neal (540) 830-4103 (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 16-07-04-00517Vivian (female)

Feist Mix    Age: Puppy

Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Vivian spent the first few months of her life huddled with her brother in the corner of a crate, trusting only him. Anytime she was put on a leash, she 'shut down'. In public, she would shiver and hide. After several months in foster care, Vivian's true happy, energetic personality is blossoming. She loves playing with her foster dog sisters (trust dogs more than humans) and has turned into a real snuggler with her foster mom. Although she initially ran from her foster mom, she now runs up to her with the cutest 'grin' as if to say 'I'm so happy to see you!' She's still shy in public, but continues making progress and is a favorite ... (Read More)visitor at a local nursing home because she is quiet, well-behaved, and has the softest ears. She has an innocent, sensitive spirit and is very smart. She is house-trained and good with children. She's still learning to trust humans and might be hard to catch if she got away. Vivian needs a home with at least one other active dog and a fenced yard for safety, for exercise, and because she is so 'private', she will not potty on a leash. Vivian is sure to return smiles and love to a kind family who gives her the same. $175.00 adoption donation ($200 for puppies under 6 months old) helps us take care of all the dogs we rescue.
